Daphine Savee. Following a fashion showing on Wednesday the group had a picnic and swim at South Wales Club. Brenda Atkins, 1975-76 Honorary Fire Chief of Sperryville Fire Department received her tiara in a ceremony Friday night from retiring chief, Beverly Atkins. The activity was held in connection with the annual benefit carnival which concluded Saturday night in Sperryville. Placing second was Wanda Jenkins with Natalie Swindler in third place, Kim Estes in fourth place and Donna Grigsby placed fifth. The gross receipts from the carnival totaled in excess of $12,000 in spite of inclement weather.

It’s show time for Mary Dobrovir of Sperryville as she competes in Moody Aylor's Old Mill Stables Horse Show last Saturday. A holiday fishing trip to Lake Anna netted Daniel Coffey, 11, of Sperryville a 9 1/4 pound catfish. Daniel's father, Frank said they also caught two other catfish weighing more than five pounds. The state requirement for citation catfish is 10 pounds. Much attention has been focused on volunteerism during the past few weeks. Several local residents were nominated for the Governor's Award on Volunteerism. Those recognized included: Louis G. "Butch" Zindel III of Amissville; Paul Poling of Amissville; Landem Harl Luttrell of Amissville; Clarence "Boosie" Dodson of Viewtown and Samuel H. Smith Sr. of Huntly. -COMPILED BY BARBARA C.
