What would you like to
see happen in the next few years?
A: This is the first year of
the school resource officer program. It’s a developing thing. I think overall it is working very well. I would like to see us get the funding so we could create an additional position, so another deputy is on the road. Being here regularly has been very helpful, I think. A couple of unfortunate instances l ave occurred where I am glad I was already here. One instance, where, sadly, a parent came intoxicated to pick up their child. We tried to handle it in a low profile manner, and arrange another ride for the child, but I am glad I was able to be here, and prevent the person from driving off with their child, intoxicated. That may have kept that child from harm's way.
Another situation occurred where a former student, with a lot of emotional baggage, had to be removed from the school. I think it helped that I was here, and that I already knew the kid, so it wasn't a stranger coming in to deal with the situation. So far I think its working out very well.
