It's been awhile since this column has appeared, , but a review of all of the ; submissions to last January’s "Rappahannock County in the 21st Century” essay contest unearthed some "quotables" that just must be shared.
Though the essays of I contest winners Barbara Sherwood, Steven Clark, and Tiana Lucking were published in the Rappahannock News, a look at excerpts from the whole selection lends one a broader sense of this place and of its people. In this month's column, quotes are provided from the essays of last year's third and fourth graders, and subsequent columns will be dedicated to selections from other contest entries.
Here is some of their wisdom . . .
"I think our leaders should protect the beauty of Rappahannock. People should not build houses on the top of mountains. It does not look good."
