officer, D.A.R.E. officer, its all part, in a way, of being a community resource officer. My basic patrol area is the school. If they need help, I may be there or just minutes away. I'm not out in Amissville working on something else.
Q: Describe your role as
school resource officer, as opposed to D.A.R.E. officer.
A: As D.A.R.E. officer I
teach the (D.A.R.E.) program. As school resource officer I am available for a lot of other things, and I am here more. In this role I can be a resource. If kids have any questions, about laws, about "what happens if...". Lets say you have a bully, picking on another kid, at the elementary school. I'll get involved with the student and a teacher or administrator, and speak with the bully. I'll let him know that some of the things he's doing are not only, unacceptable, but even against the law. Having been School Resource Officer this year I have gotten to understand some of the kids backgrounds better. I had seen it before, but putting more and more together, how these kids minds work and why they do certain things.
