After a rigorous and rapid recruitment effort by retiring Assistant Superintendent Mary Ann Biggs and incoming co-Assistant Superintendent Helen Williams and staff, the School Board had an opportunity to interview the two finalists Monday, and make their final selection at Tuesday's regular School Board meeting.
The principal recruitment effort was put on a fast track because of Jack Raines recent appointment as co-Assistant Superintendent, and a successful attempt was made to identify and retain a candidate in time for the second semester of this school year. Mrs. Biggs noted that twentyfour applications for the position had been received and reviewed by a committee consisting of Mrs. Biggs and Mrs. Williams and five high school teachers, and eleven of those candidates were selected for a one hour interview. As a result of the preliminary interview process, four candidates were "short-listed" and rated by the committee, and two primary candidates were selected for interviews by the School Board.
The School Board's interview process resulted in the selection of Mr. Joseph Perine of Ithaca, N.Y. Mr. Perine is presently the principal of a 7-12 school in upstate New York, and he was attracted to the Rappahannock County position
