Mr. and Mrs. C. Raymond Wire of Chevy Chase, Md., have purchased "The Shade," the old E.M. Green estate on the Rock Mills Road from Mrs. Charles King of "Ben Venue." The home is one of the oldest in the county, and up to the present sale the property had never been out the Green family. Mr. Wire is in the real estate and construction business in Chevy Chase. Mr. and Mrs. Wire have twin daughters, ten years old. In a recent inspection of restaurants in the county, the sanitation officer was pleased to report that ratings on eating places in the county had jumped from ratings with an average of 40 percent to an average of 80 percent. Highest rating in the county went to the Sandwich Shop in Sperryville, which scored a grade of 95 out of a possible 100. James E. Yates has purchased the Miss Eda Finks farm in the F.T. Valley. The farm, located on the western edge of Rappahannock County, has a red brick home and about 400 acres. The Auxiliary of the Rappahannock Volunteer Fire Company is offering cash prizes for the best examples of decorations for the homes in Washington during the holiday season. Judging of the decorations will fall into these lines: suitability to surroundings and occasion, originality and ingenuity; perfection of workmanship and excellence of arrangement.
