School athletics
update
Athletic Director Jon Smythe reported on the progress of the schools' athletic program. He said that enough excitement was generated early on, and that that has resulted in 130 students having signed up for winter sports. He also reported on the success of Alumni night and the Pep Rally, and on the motivation and enthusiasm of the students.
Paul Gall, President of the Rappahannock County School Sports Association (RCSSA), also shared his enthusiasm for the schools’ athletics programs and the progress made this year. He noted that seven of this year's athletes are straight A students, and another twenty-seven are A-B students. He also reported that Fauquier County Hospital and Bob Darby had contributed a total of $20,000 for a weight room, and that another $7,000 had been raised at the golf tourney and at the “haunted house.” He also discussed RCSSA plans to support the new athletic fields, and told the board that they should “be aware of the fact that it is Mr. Smythe’s vision that we are all pursuing.”
Student representative report
According to Student Representative to the Board, Jeff Simeon, "... morale in the school is really high.” He said that “everybody is having a good time” and noted that the recent Homecoming Dance was “one of the nicest dances I've ever been to.”
