Ragged Mountain activities set
The Ragged Mountain Resource Center will be coordinating the following activities in December 2000:
Saturday, Dec. 16: Women’s Hike Series, Destination: White Oak Canyon Falls, meet at Mountainside Market, 987-9100 on US 211 in Sperryville between 8:30-9 a.m., and carpool to the trailhead at Berry Hollow. Bring food/water for self and dress according to the weather of the day. Plan to return by 1 p.m. Hike is free, although donations to support RMRC's programs are appreciated. Contact hike leader Mary Boudreau at 987-9300 for further information.
We will also be coordinating clean-ups of older dump sites and other events into the next year, such as: Native Planting Programs: Surveys of damage and health in the SNP after recent fires; Surveys of older, notable trees; Establishment of a Quick Response Citizen Task Force: and much more. Bloodmobile coming
Start the New Year off by coming to the Washington Fire Hall on Jan. 4 between the hours of 3 and 7 p.m. to donate blood to the American Red Cross. During the holidays, the Red Cross faces critical shortages of blood. This would be an excellent chance for Rappahannock County residents to give the gift of life to those in need. The Bloodmobile is sponsored by the Family and Community Educators.
Women's Community bible Study set
A Women’s Community Bible Study meeting at the Amissville United Methodist Church will begin meeting weekly on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 9:30 a.m. The study will be on Luke, using the Kay Arthur Study series. Nursery is provided. All women are welcome. For more information call K Adams at 937-4397.
Front Royal Oratorio to celebrate
The Front Royal Oratorio Society invites everyone to a performance on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Front Royal Presbyterian Church. The society has a gift for everyone, an exciting concert of beautiful music, Magnificat by John Rutter and Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi.
Director George Amos is bringing the RMA chorus to sing, a real event with wonderful soloists and instrumental accompaniment. Free admission and for more information call Ann Andersen at 622-6974.
Musical reenactment planned
Former Rappahannock County resident, Tina Liza Jones, who now resides in Riner, Va. will be the second artist-in-residence at RCES. Her residence will extend through Dec. 14, when she will teach American folk songs from the 1700's to kindergarten through second grade students.
Using guitar, violin, banjo, dulcimer and other folk instru-. ments, she will also direct student performances at the second reenactment on Dec. 14 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Parents and the community are invited to attend any of her classroom sessions and the evening performance/reenactment.
