There was lots of action this past week as all three winter sports had multiple competitions and even a few Bull Run District contests.
Basketball
The boys' varsity and junior varsity basketball teams had two non-District games last week, both at home. On Tuesday, Dec. 5 the Page Panthers came to RCHS for the front end of the annual home and away rivalry.
The Page squad was smaller than the Luray team that Rappahannock faced in their season opener, but they moved the ball well and played excellent team defense. Their hustling defense coupled with some good outside shooting was too much for the RCHS Panthers who came up on the losing end of a 77-63 final score.
Senior point guard, Mark Wharton, had an outstanding night on offensive leading all scorers with 28 points. Junior Jeff Ritenour contributed ten points in the losing effort.
The Junior Varsity squad was paced by Zach Bridgeman and Noah Starks with eight points each. This was not enough offense as the JV Panthers fell to the Page JV team 50-40 in the first game last Tuesday night. The rematch between these traditional rivals was Tuesday, Dec. 12 when the RCHS Panthers traveled to Page County High School for games starting at 6 p.m.
