A service of praise and gratitude was given on Friday, Nov. 17 to show our love and appreciation to Rev. John Ross Pendleton, who retired from Promise Land Baptist Church after 25 years of dedicated service.
The theme for this program was "Lord Make Me A Blessing”. This special service was co-coordinated by Lillian Aylor with the help of the officers, members and the chairman of the food committee of Promise Land.
Rev. Forrest L. Freeman, son of the church and pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, Amissville served as worship leader. A dynamic community choir which consisted of choir members and musicians from Flint Hill Methodist Church, Macedonia Baptist Church, Flint Hill; Bethel Baptist, Amissville; First Baptist, Washington; Hopewell Baptist, Sperryville; Shiloh Baptist, Woodville; Na::aret> Baptist, Boston; Mt. Calvary Baptist, Haywood; Christian Fellowship Church, Bealeton and Promise Land Baptist Church Senior choir, Men's Chorus end Young Adult Men, directed by Mrs. Alfreds Dean.
Many moving and spirited songs were sung including one of Rev. Pendleton's favorites "Somebody Woke Me Up Another Day ". The church was filled to capacity with many of his minister friends and friends from other churches who came to wish him well.
Rev. Henry A. Townes, pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church, Sperryville, delivered a soul-stirring message, very appropriate for this occasion and this man of God. In his opening remarks, he said Rev. Pendleton was a great soldier of the cross, a great friend of man,
