Mark Chartier of Washington is one of the first applicants accepted for Officer's Candidate School from outside the Anny since the ban was recently lifted on such candidates. After receiving his B.S. degree in psychology from Georgetown University, he found his talents underutilized as a research analyst. He will take seven weeks of basic training and 14 weeks of OCS and be commissioned a Second Lieutenant. He is married to the former Katherine Skowronski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Skowronski.

The science department of Rappahannock County High School recently acquired a new telescope, and plans to offer public viewing of the night sky. According to Earth Science Teacher Tom Von Fange, the telescope will offer excellent views of the moon and planets. Due to a technical oversight, the County's Board of Supervisors must again hold a public hearing on the amendments of the subdivision ordinance and the family transfer provisions it adopted in November. The changes to the zoning ordinances regarding the requirement for golf courses and mobile homes will also be reheard.
