While learning his language, I was able to teach Cicero two English words: "hello" and "wow." His hello degenerated into wow, which he apparently preferred, repeating it endlessly. One ; summer day I had left the window of my dad's car open and discovered Cicero sitting on the back of the driver's seat, eying the instrument panel ahd yelling loud, repeated "wow"s.
I don't know if wild crows imitate other bird or animal sounds, or if my tame crow imitated my voice in an effort to communicate with me. Private crow language consists of soft trills, clucks, gur- ; gles and purrs.. Cicero made this "small-talk” only around people he trusted.
