President. Of course, the legislatures can enact laws permitting the courts to be involved in the election process, such as deciding disputes involving the election process.
However, it is important to understand that the involvement of the courts is only by permission of the legislatures and in accordance with specific rules enacted by the legislatures.
To better understand the constitutional issues involved, I would suggest that your readers review Federalist 68, which is the explanation by one of the founding fathers as to the Electoral College and why it was chosen as the vehicle for electing a President. A copy of Federalist 68 can be reviewed on-line on one of the forums on Rapplinks and other on-line sources. I have also included an analysis of Federalist 68 at that site.
There is much more that I could say about the current election process but time and space do not permit further discussion at this time. However, I believe that all of our citizens can better understand the process if they understand the constitutional provisions that I have outlined above. A properly informed electorate will make better decisions in regard to the process that is currently unfolding. Unfortunately, it is difficult to obtain objective information regarding the process because of the degree of partisanship on the part of the participants.
