Floyd Riley Sr.

Floyd Edward Riley Sr., 88, of Chester Gap died Thursday, Dec. 7 in Lynn Care Center in Front Royal.
Memorial services will be private.
Mr. Riley was bom May 9, 1912 in Rappahannock County, son of Tom and Lizza Foster Riley. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp who helped build Skyline Drive and was a retired farmer. He was married to the late Ida Mae Smoot Riley.
Survivors are two sons, Frank E. Riley of Chester Gap and Floyd E. Riley Jr. of Winchester; a brother, P.J. Riley of White Post; five grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren and two greatgreat-granddaughters.

Mattie Wharton
Front Royal resident
Mattie M. Wharton, 90, of Front Royal, died Friday, Dec. 8 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home. She was bom Feb. 23, 1910 in Virginia to the late Clark Corbin and Betty Jenkins Corbin.
Mrs. Wharton was a member of Hope Hill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Howard R. Wharton and his wife Pauline and a grandson Eugene R. Wharton and his wife Wanda, all of Front Royal.
Additional survivors include three sisters, Dor^ Carter and Mary Weakley, both of Culpeper and Lizzie Switzer of Castleton.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Howard S. Wharton.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, Dec. 10 at Found & Sons Chapel with Pastor Milton Switzer officiating.
Interment followed in Sperryville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Wharton, Robert Wharton, Jessie Wharton, Daniel Norman, Milton Switzer Jr., and Charlie Hawkins.
