Jazz guitarists
return to Theatre
Gene Bertoncini and Frank Vignola, two famous jazz guitarists from New York, return for a third year to The Theatre at Washington on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m.
Bertoncini’s fluid technique and lyricism have won him international praise and such accolades as the “Segovia of jazz.” He recently returned from performing solo in a Jazz Festival held on the Queen Elizabeth II, giving concerts in London and Ireland, and lecturing at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Born in 1965, Vignola began playing guitar at the age of five. During his youth he spent hours listening to the music of legendary guitarists Django Reinhardt, Joe Pass, and Johnny Smith, gaining inspiration, as well as understanding achieved by slowing down the records to analyze the complexities of their style.
Bertoncini and Vignola have together t. recently recorded “Meeting ofthe Grooves,” soon to be released by Azicjp Records.- , .
