The U-10 “Red Rockets” opponents showed up on Saturday with only seven players. In order for everyone to play and have fun, three of Rapps team members joined Culpeper’s team and then pulled out a win of 5 - 2.
First year player, Luke Guyant, astounded us as left wing with dynamite crosses that led to two goals! Connor Settle was having little trouble with his broken bone from last year as he blasted through Culpeper’s defense and took shots on goal that were truly amazing to watch! These U-10 “Rockets” are surely living up to their name!
The U-12 “Blue Lightning” Rapp girls, a very young team with the majority of them playing their first year in the U-12 division, found themselves pitted against a bigger, faster Orange girls’ team at Orange Booster Park. The team was shocked early as the Orange team used their size and speed advantage to score two quick goals.
Once the “Blue Lightning” settled into the game, the defense toughened up as midfielders Lily Day and Maia and Tiana Lucking slowed down the speedy Orange forwards. Caroline Massie and Alicia Smith played tough defense, denying the Orange forwards easy scoring opportunities.
However, with just two substitutes, the Rapp girls tired near the end of first half and Orange scored their third first half goal. As the skydivers floated overhead, the second half goalie Megan Wheatley made several diving stops for the “Blue Lightning.”
The only goal of the Second half came on a free kick. The Orange player was able to loft the ball over “Blue Lightning’s” defensive wall and into the upper left comer of the net. Final score Orange - 4 Rapp-O.
The U-12 “Green Dragons” were not as sharp this week,
