“The school zones are marked with flashing lights, and in addition, I have a cruiser with its blue lights flashing, but people still speed," noted Sherertz.
While the SOS project is in operation, there are additional personnel working radar in the school zone in order to clock and apprehend the speeders.
“Of the 23 drivers arrested, five were from Rappahannock County, and 18 from other jurisdictions," Sherertz added. “The average speed of the violators was 52-mph, well above the 35-mph speed limit.”
According to Sherertz, the program “will continue periodically in the future, at times that won’t be announced in advance.”
