Ailing economy presents our
legislators with real challenges
It’s going to be quite different when Allen
Louderback (R- 15th), Rappahannock’s new delegate
to the Virginia General Assembly, begins his second term in the House this week.
There will be a new governor and administration ir place when the session begins, but the biggest Challenges will be brought on by the state of Virginia’s economy — which is much weaker than when Louderback was first elected from the old 15th District in 1999.
Fortunately for Louderback — a fiscal conservative who worked for increased efficiency and accountability in his first term — he is on the same page as Gov.elect Mark Warner. And as the budget shortfall becomes more apparent, it is likely that Louderback will become involved in legislation and committee work aimed at making state government more efficient.
Already, he his planning for his “Cost-Cutting Caucus” of the last session to meet and study the state budget. And he expects to revive the moribund State Employees Suggestion Program.
Also on Louderback’s agenda is to push for a budget amendment that will help solve rural counties lik< Rappahannock that face an unfair “cost of competing for compensating teachers and other state-funded public employees.
