In the letter printed in
your Jan. 2 issue under the heading Regarding disputed facts in Hollering #5," the writer wonders whether James Madison biographer Irving Brant offers any support for the erroneous but often-repeated story that it was Madison and not Benjamin Franklin who made the motion for daily prayers in the Federal Convention on June 28, 1787.
Brant, on page 84 of volume three of his biography of Madison (James Madison: Father of the Constitution 1787-1800) affirms that the motion was made by Benjamin Franklin and seconded by Roger Sherman.
