The second meet was against Mathews High School, currently ranked 6th in the state. Robinson, Hensley, Houston Haynes. Jeff Scroggins. Graves, and Robertson recorded victories in what would turn out to be RCHS's only loss as a team in the tournament. Mathews HS beat every team at the tournament and won the crown 5-0.
The third meet of the day pitted the Panther grapplers against Region C’s Radford High School. Winning for Rapp were Brown, Robinson. H. Haynes, Ferdetta, Mike Weise, Norman, Graves, and Robertson.
The fourth meet of the •day was against host team Riverheads High School. It proved to he the closest and most exciting team meet of the tournament. Rapp was ahead JO-19 at the 1<39 weight class (wrestling for this match started at the 130 class). At the 215-class, junior Jeremy Graves was behind in his bout 6-3, when he appeared to have pinned his opponent, only to have the pin cancelled due to his opponent using m illegal hold seconds before the Graves pin.
Despite Coach Wells’ appeal to the official, the call stood and Graves had to try and heat his adversary twice in one match. Graves came hack and defeated his foe in this hotly contested match-up. hut didn't get the six points for his team that he woidd have gotten with the pin.
After Riverhead wrestlers won the next four weight classes, they pulled ahead 37-33 going into the final contest between 125pounders. Senior Johnny Ferdetta wrestled the match of his life and pinned his Riverheads’ opponent late in till- period to give RCHS the 39-37 team victory.
