Estimates presented for the new facilities include a minimum of $685,000 for the new track and other program items proposed for the spring of 2002, and a price tag of from $3.8 million to $4.6 million for the 22.100-26,700 square foot multipurpose building proposed for RCHS by the fall of 2003.
The next step in the process, said I)?'. Gangel, is to review and reduce the options and get more detail on selected options, and then to investigate the possibility of beginning engineering and design efforts on specific program elements.
School Board Facilities Committee Chair Rosa Crocker suggested that the committee meet to discuss the Rickmond report and the options presented. and take some of the program elements to the Board of Supervisors for their input.
Senior Class
trip okayed
Seniors Wendy Gillis and David Massie presented the Board with a senior trip proposal that would require a change in the graduation day date to Sunday. June 2. and a one week shift in exam week for seniors. Despite the impediments imposed by their proposal. Dr. Gangel recommended its approval, subject to final discussions with RCHS Principal Perrine. and the School Board agreed.
The proposed trip is to Myrtle Beach, S.C. from June 9 to June 13. and will include: a riverboat cruise; an outing to the Pavilion Amusement Park or the Family Kingdom Amusement Park; visits to Alligator Adventure or Ripley’s Sea Aquarium. the Imax Discovery Theater and The Attic Teen Disco; and evening admission to Carolina Opry, Alabama Theater or Legends in Concert.
The trip will cost $479 per student, including transportation, and the seniors plan to raise at least some of the required funds through candy sales, car washes, a senior/faculty basketball game, and school dances.
