The holiday break saw all the RCHS teams in some form of tournament action. For the basketball teams, that action was against the same opponents that have messed with the Panthers in the pre-district season that has just been completed. Unfortunately, the results weren't what we had hoped for.
For the Varsity Volleyball team however, the holiday break offered up a big prize and the Lady Panthers seized it. Last but not least, the varsity wrestlers traveled to an invitational tournament in the valley and acquitted themselves very well.
Basketball
It was billed as a holiday tournament. The Page Christmas Classic pits four teams against one another for two days of exciting holiday basketball. The RCHS Varsity ran up against the Luray Bulldogs for the third time this season in the Classic opener.
The Panthers were still not capable of finding a way to stop the Bulldogs and came up on the losing end of an 81 to 55 contest. The next night. Friday, Dec. 28, the Panthers matched up with the hosting Panthers from Page County.
These two teams had split in earlier contests this year and the RCHS Panthers lost the rubber match 64 to 59. The JV Panthers also played two games on the first day of the tournament, but had the misfortune of drawing back-to-back contests. After losing the first game to the JV team from Luray, 50 to 46. the JV7 Panthers were out of steam for the second game and lost to the hosting JV squad from Page County bv the score of 58 to 47.
