Ms. Tibbetts is a registered nurse with a specialty in diabetes. She works as a diabetes nurse educator and volunteers with the Rappahannock Free Clinic.
“I have been asked to offer a community support group where people with diabetes can come and learn about current recommendations for diabetes self care. The information provided at the support group will be based on the American Diabetes Association’s 2002 Guidelines for Management of Diabetes,” said Ms. Tibbetts.
According to Ms. Tibbetts the intent of the support group is to provide basic information and support to help persons with diabetes work more effectively with their personal physician. Families and friends are also encouraged to attend.
Each month there will be a new topic that the group will take up.
The initial meeting on Jan. 30 will focus on “Diet, Strategies for Making Healthy Food Choices”, refreshments will be provided from recipes taken from ADA cookbooks.
On Feb. 27 the topic will be “Benefits of Activity, Tips on starting a New Exercise Program”.
The group will discuss “Monitoring Your Health - Six Key Measures to Consider” on March 27. ,
All three of the support group meetings will be held at Trinity Church’s Parish Hall in Washington from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
This is a free program, but Ms. Tibbetts would appreciate RSVP’s for the initial program so she can prepare the refreshments. Everyone is invited.
