at the Prism on Jan. 12 when the concert was canceled due to his serious illness. And now comes the sad news today.

I wish I had known John • Jackson and now it is too latg. He always came across as a kind, gentle person in his performances, a true gentleman; in the best sense of the word.

I heard him relate on a CD how he gave up playing music for a long time because some gatherings had become too violent. I cannot help but contrast this integrity with the thuggish behavior of some of our contemporary so-called entertainers.

Two of the most memorable performances of his that I saw were in Sperryville at Apple Harvest Festivals, in 1995 and 1997.
