Lenten services to begin
Washington Baptist Church will host ecumenical services for Lent, beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 20 and continuing each Wednesday through March 20. Other churches participating are the Flint Hill Methodist. Sperryville Methodist. Reynolds Memorial Baptist, St. Peter’s Catholic and Trinity Episcopal.
This year's theme is: Out of the Ashes Confidence at the Cross Roads.
A fellowship “pot-luck" dinner at 6:15 starts each gathering; the Lenten service begins at 7 and ends at approximately 8 p.m. Nursery care will be available at no charge. Everyone is cordially invited and welcomed.
Estate Pla n ning progra m set
Virginia Cooperative Extension is offering an Estate Planning program beginning in February. The four sessions on Feb. 12, Feb. 26. March 12 and March 26 will be held at the Jeffersonton Community Center from 7 to 9 p.m. The program is a joint effort of the Family and Consumer Sciences and Agricultural programs of VCE.
Issues to be addressed during the workshops will include decision making for the transfer of non-titled property, surrogate decision making, long-term care, living wills, financial planning for retirement and the overall estate planning process. The workshops will be presented by local extension agents, a state specialist and an attorney.

Fruit school plan ned
The Madison-Rappahannock Area Fruit School sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office will be held on Thursday, Feb. 14 from 8:30 a m. to 1:45 p.m.
Topics will include: Chemical Bloom Thinners; New Apple Root Stocks; Insect Management Strategies; 2001 Internal Worm Survey; Controlling Diseases in 2002; Food Quality Protection Update; Apogee on a Component of Fireblight Control; Spray Bulletin Update; Sprayer calibration and 2001 Orchard Survey. ValentineS open house set
A Valentine’s open house will be held at the Oasis Winery benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There’s free admission but a $5 charge for tour and tasting which includes a souvenir Oasis wine glass. Spring registrations accepted
The Rappahannock Soccer League is currently accepting 2002 spring soccer registrations. They are available at the Rappahannock Library and the Washington Post Office Kiosk.
Fees are $35 for first player and $20 for each additional family member. Some scholarships available. Volunteers are needed for coaching and an adult referee. Call the Registrar, Laura Dodd at 547-2968 for more information. The final day to register is Feb. 15, 2002.
Fodderstack race day set
The 24th annual Fodderstack race will be held on Saturday, April 20. Registration fees remain the same at $20 per person. For additional information call 675-5330.
Support group offered
Hospice of the Rapidan offers free bereavement Support groups to anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one. with or without prior Hospice affiliation. The discussion group now forming will meet on Monday evenings for six weeks, beginning Feb. 18 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Hospice of the Rapidan Community Room. Pre-registration is appreciated.

Yoga with Lilo

Diabetes support group offered
A Rappahannock diabetes support group will be offered Feb. 27 and March 27 by Cathy Tibbetts, RN, Certified Diabetes Educator at Trinity Church’s Parish Hall in Washington from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Ms. Tibbetts is a registered nurse with a specialty in diabetes She works as a diabetes nurse educator and volunteers with the Rappahannock Free Clinic. Clinic xvill be open Feb. 6
The Rappahannock Free Clinic, a local operation of the Fauquier Free Clinic Inc., is currently open on the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of each month. The clinic will be open Wednesday, Feb 6 and not again until 20.

Food Sanitation Course set
The Winter 2002 Food Sanitation Certification course has been scheduled for food service personnel and Rappahannock residents are encouraged to participate.
Virginia Cooperative Extension and Department of Health offer the 18-hour course at the Culpeper County Library, Southgate Shopping Center, on six Mondays starting Feb 4 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
