Amissville resident Bill fiercer was named director of the Virginia Community College System’s (VCCS) new Institute for Building Technologies. Mr. Mercer will take a six-month sabbatical from his post as head of the Building Technologies Program at the Manassas campus of Northern Virginia Community College to provide his expertise to development tasks for the new Institute.
His initial efforts will include establishing communications between the building trades programs at the twenty-three community colleges of the VCCS, developing a longterm plan for supporting the building trades industry in Commonwealth, coordinating faculty professional development, integrating credit and non-credit certification prograins, and working with a statewide advisory board to develop worker-trainee recruitment strategies.
The Institute for Building Technologies was established by the Virginia Community College System to address .critical labor shortages in the construction industry, and is designed to provide a statewide and coordinated effort for the recruitment and training of new construction industry workers.
