The silence of the night was broken by the throb of diesel motor as the first artificial snow was laid on the local ski area. Gasoline lanterns, dotting the hillside, pierced the darkness and reflected the prisms made by tiny snowflakes as “operation ski snow” got underway at 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
Frank Louckes, manager of the Skyline Ski Club announced that the artificial snow equipment in the Harris Hollow Ski Area is almost complete and with desirable temperatures the slopes will soon be usable.
The first snow was laid early Sunday morning on the intermediate slope but warm weather the first of the week was not conducive to snow making.
WA. Moore Jr., who has been stationed in Greenville, Miss, is spending a leave with his parents. He will leave Feb. 7 for Califomii and on the 25th will leave for a three-year tour of duty in Japan with the U.S. Air Force.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. WA Moore of Flint Hill.
At the Pitt’s Theatre in Culpeper featured movies included: Mystery at Tiger Bay; Michael Strogoff; John Wayne in The Commacheros and The Second Time Around featuring Debbie Reynolds.
