Mike Smoot of Washington, who attends DeKalb College in Georgia, was chosen in the winter professional baseball draft of junior colleges by the Baltimore Orioles. He was selected in the sixth round and was given the option of going with that team now or playing out the season with DeKalb.
Mike is attending the college on a baseball scholarship. He is a 1976 graduate of Rappahannock County High School and is a right-handed pitcher.
The Amissville Volunteer Fire Department Inc. answered a total of 178 calls for the year of 1976.
Total number of fires was 72; 25 structural; 22 brush; 16 auto; six miscellaneous and three false alarms. Forty of these calls were in Rappahannock County and 32 in Culpeper County. i Total number of rescue calls was 106.
Mrs. Lynne Baines of Washington was recently elected as a member of the Board to the Culpeper Community Concert Association. She is the only board member or officer from Rappahannock.

Eighty-nine Rappahannock Elementary seventh graders became the first class in the school’s history to graduate form the Sheriff’s Office's Drug Abuse Resistance Education program during ceremonies at the school Friday.
“These students have learned ways of coping with today’s world,” said Lt. Jeff Brown of the Sheriff’s Office, who taught the * course.
