When finished, the pool table was visually as Mr. Kramer had designed it, but much homework on pool table standards and construction, thinking through engineering problems and figuring and refiguring angles took place before the first sawdust was drawn.

From the time Mr. Dwyer began to let the sawdust fly until the saws were quiet, almost three months of constant work were spent in the actual building of the pool table. Working together as a team they mostly solved the problems before they became mistakes. Nothing was miscut, no wood was wasted and there were no disasters.

According to Mr. Dwyer, the Kramer shop always over-engineers and this was no exception. Compared to the plans for the underpinnings of the Brunswick pool tables which Mr. Dwyer was studying as homework, the structure they built was twice as strong. No wimpy underpinnings on this pool table. It took over a month just to build the subframe or the underpinnings — multi-layers of handfit and laminated pieces of wood. “This is massive,” he said.

Mr. Dwyer said that in 20 years of furniture making this was his most challenging piece. Because it is a pool table, it had to be incredibly stable and strong but had to be built so that
