-tnrougn lztn grade tor VA Honor Band, Tri-County Band, District 14 Band Auditions, Solo and Ensemble Contest, winter and spring drum line and winter guard competitions, and possibly a late spring competition for the entire band in marching, concert, drum-line and color guard, venues.
All students should successfully pass the intermediate or advanced SOL requirements for instrumental music.
The band’s alternating block (4th period-note new bell schedules) will be paired with a choice of music theory and technology, newspaper journalism, or wellness. The alternating block will offer one credit for the year; the paired block will offer an additional credit for the year.
Band camps
RCES 5th, 6th and 7th grade students have the opportunity to attend a band camp on Saturday, Aug. 24 at the high school from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are to bring their own lunch; band boosters will supply beverages, and we will end with an ice cream party, to include parents.
The day’s activities will include leaning to march (mandatory attendance for 6th and 7th graders is required if they wish to accompany the RCHS band to the state fair on Oct. 5 where their entrance will be free for the day), elementary color guard (flag) instruction, master classes on their instruments, and parade practice with the entire group.
We will have a short demonstration of the day’s activities for the parents to watch at 3 p.m.
RCHS Band students 8th through 12th are required to attend marching/concert practice Friday, Aug. 23 from 9 a.m.
