In first place for swine judging at the Virginia Market Hog Show held July 20-21 in Courtland were Brian and Keith Updike of Omaha, Neb. and Brian Miller of Kearney, Mo. The Updike boys, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Updike and friend Brian Miller were visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Updike of Washington and accompanied uncle Randall Updike to the show. The trophy was for their team judging.
Honorable Rayner V. Snead, Circuit Judge for Rappahannock, Fauquier and Loudoun Counties, has been re-elected to the Board of Directors of the American Judicature Society.

A front page photo featured a flower bed by Sally Keyser. Mrs. Keyser planted an imaginative garden in an old iron bed at her home in Old Hollow, redefining the term “flower bed.”
Stephanie Atkins, 15, of Slate Mills has been given an award for “Outstanding Work Performance” by the Summer Youth Employment Training Program.
