Sandblasting and repainting ornamental iron furniture is the latest of the services that Rick’s Custom Welding offers.
The welding torch has led Mr. Nawrocki in some unusual areas. One of his current projects is the restoration of an old US Army gas cookstove from the 1930’s. Found by one of his “railing” customers in Warrenton, Mr. Nawrocki will sandblast, refurbish, convert to propane and deliver the stove to Connecticut.
Mr. Nawrocki has been a one-man show for years, but has just taken on a part-time apprentice for the summer. D.J. Frye, a student at Rappahannock High School, had the opportunity to take welding at the high school, enjoyed it, and wanted to learn more from a master craftsman.
When asked if he was interested in expanding and hiring employees, he admitted he was “content as things are now.” He sees the personal relationship with his customers as the most important reason for his success. They know who’s doing the job and what kind of job it will be at the end. His reputation is everything to him. His business motto is “Welding at its best.” He intends to keep it that way.
