Ine board discussed creating its own persona] goals and reworking those presented to them. They also agreed, for the time being, to grant permission for Chappell to present the current goals to faculty so they would have a sense of the school's direction.

In other discussion, board member Sharon Kilpatrick addressed recent media coverage of the sheriff s race, in which candidate Steve Butler reportedly said drugs are "out of control” in county schools.

Kilpatrick responded to the article by saying, "I do not think that drug use in our schools is out of control and I do not think that the board should ignore that story all together."

Johnson responded to Kilpatrick's comments by saying she wished the parent raising these concerns to Butler would come to the school board and let it know more about the school's perceived drug problem. 'You can't do anything to take care of a problem if you don't know you have it," she said.

Board member Douglas Baumgardner said he would like to see an inventory from schools of reported drug use over the past seven years to see if it had in fact gone up.

Mills agreed saying it would allow them to "know what number could be associated with 'out of control. "
