Rappahannock News Food Writer : Everyone knows that children who eat breakfast do better in school than those who leave home without food in their tummies. But a battle to get them to down oatmeal, scrambled eggs and sausage at the crack of dawn isn’t the way to start off the day, either.

While June Cleaver may have taught us that a good hot breakfast is the way to go, that’s not necessarily gospel. There’s nothing wrong with a cold, light breakfast and it may well be more in tune with what’s needed today.

Plus, since you’re rushing off somewhere, too, you don’t have time to cook a gourmet meal.

Most mornings we eat in the car and'on the run. While we wish we didn’t have to, it’s a fact of life during our busy weekdays.

A take-along breakfast for vour child is a great solution. It’s an easy way to get much-needed nutrients into growing bodies and to jump-start the school
