I am beginning to resent the part that the Rappahannock News is playing in stirring up fear and confusion when it should be reporting on our community’s issues as if it cared about them.
We are a small enough community for me to have that expectation. I feel that the news is being handled in a way to sell papers. I am naive to think that money isn’t behind everything these days.
Issues that are at the heart of our community—growth, safety, education—are presented in an “us versus them” manner that is detrimental to our health as a community. We are them. Read your paper with a grain of salt and talk to your neighbors.
What exactly are we talking about here, drugs in the Rappahannock schools, or kids who do drugs who attend the Rappahannock schools, or kids who know kids who do or sell drugs? I refer to the article “Drugs: ‘out of control’” in the Aug. 7 edition.
How can Mr. Butler reasonably try to blame this on our sheriff's office? If I were to walk into the school and see the obvious effects of an “out of control” drug problem on the population, I would say that not only the sheriff’s office had a problem and include the teachers and the administration who know the students on a daily basis, as well as the parents
