Named after the Confederate Civil War Hero Colonel John S. Mosby (popularly known as the Gray Ghost), the winery is located in picturesque Rappahannock County.
It began in 1969 as a home project and grew over the years into what it is today, an independent-operating winery with more than 6,600 vines generating grapes for such classics as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Vidal Blanc.
The winery has been successful at producing internationally award-winning wines.
For those seeking a new experience, from late August to mid October, Gray Ghost offers a Volunteer Harvest Program. Those interested in helping with the harvest will spend the morning/afternoon picking grapes and enjoying barbecue.
