It also is looking into getting signs put up along Ben Venue Road (6301 and Richmond Road 17291 that would memorialize Custer's nearly suicidal assault on A.P Hill's retreating corps on July 24, 1863.

After splitting his forces two times in the face of an overwhelming force, Custer was outflanked by the 4th and 15th Alabama Regiments under General Henry L. Benning. Custer, with four cannons in tow, was lucky to be able to cut his way through thick trees to a back road that served as his escape route. The Round Table would like to see this important local battle become more widely known.
