It was written in 1930 by Rush Young. Young, from Virginia, was on the ship and in the same Company with Brown Smith and Frank Smith. Rollie Utz, also aboard, was in a different company. This book gives a day to day summary of all the events experienced by this group.
According to Mr. Young, after loading, they were assigned to “H” section just below the water line and were not allowed to go up on the deck. He said, after the initial loading, there was great confusion since officers could not find their units. He also indicated in his book that maps of the ship were issued to the soldiers, but they were hard to understand.
