Now, national magazines and newspapers have confirmed that actual funding for veterans benefits have been cut more than $300 million in the last three years. Nearly 500,000 veterans have been excluded from enrolling in VA health care.
If re-elected, Bush and Cheney plan to cut benefits for veterans by an additional $910 million. VA officials have made at least $1.1 million in inappropriate purchases at stores like Sharper Image, Radio Shack and Gap, according to a General Accounting Office report.
At the same time, the VA secretary has announced the closing or partial closing of 11 VA hospitals in order to “consolidate services.”
