County Administrator John McCarthy said.
Last Wednesday the supervisors eased some lighting brightness totals for ATM machines after making an inspection of exterior lights at the Rappahannock National Bank and the 211 Quicke Mart Shell station on Route 211.
The proposed lighting ordinance solely covers future lighting plans for commercial businesses in Rappahannock County. It does not cover residential lighting and has little immediate impact since there are few areas of the county zoned for commercial development. The lighting plans of the bank and the Shell station are legally protected as they were approved before the ordinance. Supporters of the lighting ordinance think it is important to have rules laid down for future businesses that may come to the county.
