Most horses take naturally to jumping. StiH, the value of an expert trainer in the development of a steeplechaser cannot be underestimated. A trainer conditions the horse to build up endurance by / gradually increasing the distance of his gallops. He or she begins schooling the horse to go over obstacles, often starting with little logs found in the countryside. When the horse has mastered small logs and low fences, the trainer schools him over small brush hurdles that resemble t regulation steeplechase fences. These are taken at different paces to improve the mix of speed and jumping ability.
