A highlight of the evening was the auction of four unique items: dinner with Kate & Jim Lehrer, executive director and anchor of “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer” at the home of Linda and Bill Dietel in Flint Hill; a personal portrait by Ned Bittinger, award-winning portrait artist whose subjects include Shirley MacLaine and Nancy Kissinger; a cherry coffee table by wellknown furniture maker Peter Kramer, and a wrought iron bistro table and chairs designed by the children of Headwaters’ Summer Workshops Program.
Highest bidders on these items were: Proctor Jones and Phyllis Magrab at $2,700 for dinner with Jim Lehrer and his wife; Lucille and Jerome Niessen at $650 for Peter Kramer’s cherry coffee table; Catherine Porter at $745 for the Bittinger personal portrait; and Pat Hamilton at $385 for the bistro table.
The evening supported Headwaters, the Rappahannock County Public Education Foundation.
Rappahannock National Bank presented the group with a Match Challenge. All Challenge monies raised will be matched 50 percent by the bank.
