This year’s Taste of Rappahannock fund-raiser brought 260 guests to the Belle Meade Schoolhouse in Sperryville last Saturday for a merry evening of wining and dining on the best of Rappahannock’s gourmet bounty.
Friends, neighbors, old Rappahannock and new mingled under a festive tent sharing in the opening highlight of the fall season, and all for a good cause: public education of Rappahannock’s children.
So popular is this annual event that some guests cut short their late summer vacations to attend the sold-out dinner in which individual tickets went at $135 and tables at $1,500.
Now, in its sixth year, the event, is as one guest described, like “a fine wine with a fingering aftertaste.”
Nearly 40 businesses, including restaurants, B&Bs, wineries, farms and orchards contributed wine, hors d’oeuvres, vegetables, beef, venison, salmon, desserts and coffee, served buffet style by the Culinary Arts classes at Rappahannock High School as well as other volunteers. The culinary classes and volunteers prepared the food.
