At all races — in fact nearly any horse event — comfortable and durable footwear is of primary importance. You will likely be walking across a cow pasture to get from your parking spot to the paddock, so waterproof is key if it rained recently. After that, for the smaller early season fall races, nearly anything goes as long as you are not in poor taste.
Think comfortable and casual elegance. A smart tweed blazer, tidy jeans (blue or otherwise), maybe a scarf (for women) or a knotted ascot (for men) with polished paddock boots is just about right. Add a ball cap or, if you’re feeling frisky, a felt fedora or maybe a boater on top.
Abit dressy
As the season progresses to richer, National Steeplechase Association-sanctioned races, the temperature drops and the dress gets a little fancier.
