The main issue, according to Almond, is that the equipment is expensive and if the jerseys are damaged, lost, or stolen, it will cost the school money.
“I’ve seen it too many times,” Almond said. “They take them home or take them off for P.E. and they get lost or stolen. I’ve seen kids make a mess, getting food on them and things like that.”
Tammy Franklin, co-captain of the varsity cheerleaders, doesn’t see it that way.
“We cheerleaders practice more than the football team,” said Franklin, a senior. “We work too hard not to be allowed to wear them when the rules say we can. This is about tradition and pride for the football team. People shouldn’t change things that have been done a certain way.”
Franklin said she also spoke for the whole squad, including co-captains Kelsey Hutcheson, Lauren Kay, and Christine Howard.
