The Steeplechase at Oak Ridge joins Virginia’s fall circuit - for its Oct. 24 kickoff.
Race director Mike Pearson said that the 2004 meet is sanctioned by the Virginia Steeplechase Association, but that the committee has already contacted National Steeplechase Association officials for NSA sanctioning next year.
“It fills a hole on the Virginia circuitsaid Pearson. “And you’ve got to see the course and layout — it just screamed for a jump meet.” He explained that the track was a training center built by former __ owner Thomas Fortune Ryan; the track was used for a brief parimutuel Standardbred meet three years ago.
“The track is set in a natural bowl,” he added. “Viewing is going to be great, and the course is wide and the turf is great. It is going to be a first-rate course.”
