Jabbour was a founding member of “The Hollow Rock String Band,” whose 1968 recording of traditional dance tunes has recently been reissued on compact disc. He taught the band a repertory of old-time fiddle tunes, and the group formed an important link in the instrumental folk music revival of the 1960s.
Ken Perlman
Banjo player Perlman is a master of the melodic clawhammer style—am approach that has transformed clawhammer from an accompaniment to a solo style of banjo playing. He has adapted many Celtic and “Down East” fiddle times for the banjo.
Perlman has been a banjo newsletter columnist for 20 years, and has written several well-known books on clawhammer instruction. He is an expert on old-time fiddle tunes and related lore from the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island.
His solo CDs include “Island Boy,” “Devil in the Kitchen,” and most recently, “Northern Banjo.”
Perlman and Jabbour play concerts and teach workshops on banjo, fiddle and old-time music history. Between them, they have been on the faculty at more than a score of acoustic music camps and teaching festivals, including the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes, Augusta Heritage Workshop, Tennessee Banjo Institute, Banjo Camp North, Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp, Common Ground on the Hill, and the Puget Sound Guitar.
