It is the time of year that most Board of Supervisors and government officials dislike — budget time. ' Of the proposed $.14 real estate increase for the Fiscal Year 2006 budget for the county, only one cent has been set aside to fund county employee payroll commitments. The remaining $.13 will be broken down with ten cents going to fully fund Rappahannock County Public Schools request, including debt service on the new bond issuance, which was approved last year, and two cents to fund increased landfill costs.
The final cent will go to fund a variety of other increases within the county, including cost of living adjustments and new part-time hours in the General District Court services.
Over $600,000 of Rappahannock County’s budget is comprised of salaries to pay government officials, which upon first review, is quite large.
However, in comparison to surrounding counties, Rappahannock residents are getting quite a deal.
In the legal and law enforcement fields, there is quite a variation in salaries among the counties.
In Rappahannock County, Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke receives $103,000 to represent the county, as opposed to Fauquier County, where the annual salary is $127,340.01.
