Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Robert Chappell and three members of the Rappahannock County School Board were the first to hear the news — they will be making the county’s school budget with $150,000 less.
The school board had proposed a budget of $11,357,832 with the county being responsible for $7,451,519 of that amount. The county’s portion would be a 15-percent increase from last year.
In voting to “decrease the increase” as Supervisor Roger A. Welch of Wakefield District referred to the reduction, the school board’s budget has been reduced to $11,207,832 with the county being responsible for $7,301,519.
