Ask bartender Jonathan Minas, who has remained a constant in the building through several incarnations, and he’ll tell you the history of the building. He will point out the original pressed tin ceiling tiles, typical of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century’ around Virginia. When you look in at the front of the building, the big picture window with ‘Foti’s’ written in gold letters is surrounded by frosted glass bricks and framed by two small doors. These architectural details, Minas will tell you, speak of the building’s origins as an earlier twentieth-century ABC store. The glass bricks served as a kind of sign, and the doors provided a separate entrance and exit for the package customers, just as ABC stores have today.

In that old style of ABC store, like those today, there were two separate doors in the front, one to go in, one to go out.
